PhD Programme

The Development Studies PhD Programme is one of those offered by the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU). It is run by the Hegoa Institute and the departments of Applied Economics, Sociology and Social Work, Company Law, and the Gezki Institute. It holds the "Mention towards Excellence" awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

Aimed at: People interested in furthering their academic education and specialising in the field of Development Studies.

The PhD Programme is aimed at training researchers in areas related to its underlying lines of research. The programme is interdisciplinary and fosters work on PhD theses aimed at delving further into a rigorous and critical analysis of globalisation, development processes and international cooperation.

Students are therefore offered the necessary academic guidance and methodology support to successfully completed their PhD thesis.

Entrance requirements

There are multiple and variable entrance channels, given the multidisciplinary and interdepartmental nature of the PhD programme. Therefore, there are no specific requirements limiting entrance to students from certain academic areas or fields, except for the statutory general requirements.

In order to complete the pre-enrolment registration to the doctoral programme in Development Studies this documentation is required, standard for all UPV/EHU doctoral programmes, as well as a motivation letter and this thesis project form.
